Most Namibia holidaymakers have their ‘Visa on Arrival’ with them when they fly to Namibia. Applying in advance is indeed recommended. Anyone applying for their visa upon arrival at the immigration counter will have to pay an additional fee in future.

This was announced yesterday by the Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHAISS). The additional fee is 400 Namibian dollars (currently around 20.30 euros; amount at the current exchange rate, 1 N$ = 1 Rand). MHAISS cited manual processing as the reason.

No exceptions were mentioned. It remains unclear what happens at border posts that cannot process e-visas. Or in the case of problems with the online application. Occasionally, guests of BüllsPort report that their payment failed.

The new ‘Visa on Arrival’ has been in effect since April 1st (see BüllsPort’s report). It costs 1,600 Namibian dollars (currently around 81.20 euros; amount based on the current exchange rate, 1 N$ = 1 Rand). You can apply for the visa in advance online on the immigration authority’s e-service website.
