Experience everyday life: ‘Give & Take excursion’ to the ǂNabasib primary school in the southern centre of Namibia
Some would also like their holiday to make a meaningful contribution to improving people’s living conditions. The ‘Give & Take Excursion’ to the ǂNabasib Government School is just the thing for fans of this ‘responsible travelling’.
Excursion to ǂNabasib Primary School near BüllsPort
Time – Only possible in the afternoon. Approx. 2 hours. Not at weekends or during school holidays. Booking required well in advance.
Journey – 15 km drive in your own car to the school.
Price for guided tour & cultural performance – at your own discretion. Recommendation: see price list for experiences
At the end of the visit, you will experience a cultural performance. Pupils present traditional Ovambo, Baster and Nama songs and dances, which they have rehearsed under the direction of dedicated teachers. These performances also motivate the children to cultivate the culture of their respective ethnic groups – together and across cultural groups.
Donation as payment for the tour
The money is given to the leading teacher, preferably in an envelope. The school also raises money by itself, through sports festivals and other activities, to buy school supplies such as pens and exercise books or sports equipment. Although education is always the largest item in the annual state budget, the funds for government schools are only sufficient for the bare essentials.
Please note: The tour is not possible at weekends or during school holidays. It only takes place in the afternoons so as not to disrupt lessons. BüllsPort Lodge & Farm must give advance notice of an excursion so that teachers and students can prepare. It is best to indicate that you are interested in the ‘Give & Take’ excursion to ǂNabasib Primary School when booking your stay.
Responsible travelling: Contributing to sustainable development
Some guests see this as part of ‘responsible travel’: a meaningful contribution, made directly on site, to support the people in the holiday destination.
Incidentally, travelling itself is also responsible, even to faraway countries such as Namibia. Despite all the concerns about climate-damaging flights, we must not forget that tourism is the only economic sector in many developing countries that can grow sustainably.
In Namibia, an average of twelve holidaymakers create one job. Many accommodations, like BüllsPort Lodge & Farm, are located close to attractive natural sites in rural areas. With their jobs, they therefore also counteract the problem of rural exodus. And many accommodations support social projects in their neighbourhood. Like BüllsPort Lodge & Farm supports the primary school ǂNabasib.
