If you want to make a contribution to preserving nature during your Namibia vacation, BüllsPort Lodge & Farm is the perfect place. BüllsPort received the highest possible award from the “Eco ISO” Eco Awards Namibia for the extensive measures taken to ensure the sustainability of its guest operations…
5 desert flowers for sustainability
Roaring applause in the packed hall at the HAN (Hospitality Association of Namibia) gala evening last Saturday. As part of the annual congress, accommodations were awarded for protecting nature and making their operations environmentally friendly.
BüllsPort Lodge & Farm was particularly pleased. Because his certificate from the independent environmental seal Eco Awards Namibia shows five desert flowers. This is the top rating, analogous to five stars for the standard of facilities and service of an accommodation.
Investment in “green” guest operation – despite Corona

This certifies not only, that BüllsPort fulfills all environmental requirements of the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), routinely checked by Eco Awards Namibia during an inspection. BüllsPort also received the highest possible number of points in the energy sector. In addition, the implementation of the environmental concept in operational management, in nature conservation, in waste disposal and sewage as well as in the area of staff and health was rated as excellent.
With the top grade of the five desert flowers – one more than at the previous inspection in 2018 – Eco Awards Namibia honours BüllsPort’s investments aiming at making its operations even “greener”. These investments were made at a time when lodge and campsite hardly had any guests due to the corona-related travel restrictions.
With Eco Awards Namibia against greenwashing
The independent eco-label Eco Awards Namibia was founded in 2007. It also serves to counter so-called greenwashing. Participation is voluntary.
If a company applies for an assessment, it receives a detailed list of possible measures to ensure the sustainability of the operation. It is used to check the measures that have already been taken.
At the same time, it gives suggestions for further improvements. The Eco Awards Namibia inspector then uses the list for his inspection. A rating is valid for three years.
